Due to the recent developments surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the increased risk it poses for individuals with pre-existing medical conditions we want to assure you that the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals that we support, their families, and our employees is of the utmost importance to us.
We are closely following all updates related to COVID-19 and will continue to adhere to the CDC and MDH suggested guidelines. The basic approach of maintaining good hygiene standards, such as hand washing, seems to be the current best practice but we believe that additional precautionary methods may be beneficial.
We want you to know that we are actively encouraging sick employees to stay home. Any employee that is displaying flu like symptoms or symptoms of acute respiratory illness has been asked to not come to work. These symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, and cough. We are also suggesting that employees stay home if they have been in close contact with someone who is sick.
We are asking the same of the individuals we support. We know that this may be difficult as many of the individuals we support rely on us heavily to complete day to day tasks but limiting unnecessary contact plays a critical role in reducing the spread of this illness.
What does this mean?
Over the last few days we have had open conversations with the individuals we support regarding how this pandemic may impact their services. We have helped many of our individuals prepare by ensuring that they have at least a two week supply of food, medications, and basic necessities. We will continue providing services during this time but staffing hours may be reduced over the next few weeks. Community inclusion will be put on hold and staff will only bring clients out into the community for things such as grocery shopping and to necessary medical appointments.
If you do not feel comfortable having staff in your home over the next few weeks, please let us know.
All support team meetings will be postponed until further notice. Communication with support teams will still continue as needed via email and telephone.
We thank you for your patience as we navigate how to handle this situation while keeping the individuals we support safe and healthy while still being able to deliver quality services.
